Hi Roland,

no there is no support for any form of MPEG4 interactive scene or composited scene in Quicktime (yet).



- As I understand it, BIFS is binary encoded vrml 97.

BIFS is not binary encoded VRML97. Let's say that XMT, the name of the description language used in MPEG4, is a superset of VRML97, pieces of SMIL, bits of javascript and something more. So there's no exact matching between VRML and XMT (for example, XMT has a hierachical tree also for audio and multimedia objects).

Are there any examples using vrml 'inside' mpeg4 ?

You can find a lot of them on the webpage of OSMO4 (the MPEG4 Systems player by ENST) with a BIFS compiler and some other tools. Obviously you can find other samples on Envivio's website.


- Are there any tools that let me convert my vrml content to mpeg4 ?

VRML directly to BIFS? Not automagically. You can slightly modify your code in order to be compiled with MP4Tool by ENST or via BIFS compiler/Envivio Broadcast Studio. If you need some code samples I can provide you mine.


- Are there any authoring tools, that export scenes to mpeg4 ?

Envivio Broadcast Studio is a high price tool for doing that. I'm working on another similar tool that could be even released for free but it is some months far from now...
