Are you viewing the movie from the player? If so, have you tried other movies, say a sample.mov on your machine? Have you tried viewing in a browser? Tip, do a Find for .mov. Click on the smallest movie. If it plays, your QuickTime works somewhat.

Here's some help online probably for OS 9 and QT 5, but it has some ideas, have you tried it?

Are you sure you got all the QuickTime software along with the player?

G3 is an older machine. If you just switched, did you get this machine used? If so, key software components might have been removed. Any Apple computer comes with QT installed. But QT 6 came later than G3, so the QT 6 is an upgrade. Perhaps it wasn't done right. Have you tried a clean installation of QuickTime?
