Yes, assuming you mean infrequent keyframes, you're wrong. If the playback stutters the movie has to build up the current frame by going back to the previous keyframe and adding in all the difference frames. If it had a problem keeping up, it's unlikely to catch up before the next keyframe, when it has a chance for a fresh start. If it still can't keep it, it'll stutter again. With keyframe spacing of 240, that would look like spurts of real time play separated by about eight seconds of being stuck.
