Re: 24 fps to 12 fps ?

Basically this is what I do:

At the moment I use "Animation" (the one completely at the top) as a compressor. I tried Sorensen but it is far to slow for editing. I can't move the "location indicator" without having to wait a lifetime for it to move.
when I choose "Animation" I can edit instantly. The only problem is they make huge files.

I open a new window and copy and paste all my small movies in one unique movie. I then export (again) using Sorensen.
Not very orthodox, I can imagine all of you thinking: How complicated! ;-)

Finely, would I be better off opening every scene with the: Open image sequence and simply copy and paste from there before exporting to movie?
I also have sound with the movies but they are simply copied and added. They are compressed.

I'm now confused as to what you want to do. It seems to me that you are editing a number of image sequences to then compress them for delivery. If that is the case we can break your problem in two parts. One is the editing and the other is the delivery.

For the editing, just do what you're doing:
- Import the image sequence at the frame rate you want. It seems that you need 24 fps. This will open a sequence of images compressed to "Planar RGB", I think.

- Now, instead of exporting these "editing" files just save as with dependencies. In the French OS it reads "Fichier->Enregistrer Sous->Format normal (dipendances autorisies)". This will create a tiny movie that NEEDS all the other image files that were used to generate the sequence. So don't delete those from your hard drive.

At this point you should be able to edit these files at will. Remember to save as "normal" to allow the dependances. This process will avoid any compression and much of a hard drive waste. Also, playback may be slow because you're working with lots of data, specially on an old machine. Still you can be frame accurate using the keyboard to make selections and what not.

As to per your delivery problem, you'll need to resize the video to something manageable. At 600 KBps (that's 4.7 mbps) the video should look amazing but may chug the playback computer. We still don't know how fast is the machine that needs to play your movies back. In any case, MPEG-4 at 320x240, 24 fps at a data rate of about 1.5 mbps (about 192 KBps) should look great and play on a wide range of machines. Mind you that I threw a 1.5 mbps data rate based on your original post of 600 KBps. This may be way too much for a web delivered project for people on modem connections, though. Which brings me back to the question of what you want to achieve?
