WM9 is not compatible with earlier versions of Windows Media Player.  Just
re-encode your .avi with a earlier version of Windows Media.  You can
download earlier encoders at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

Many people still use WM7 which will still play back in Windows Media Player
version 9.
