Recording Black on vhs tape

    Does anybody know of a program or knows how to program (in cocoa) for a
firewire video capture to ignore capturing on black or blank patches of
video. I need to capture SVHS video but want to either exclude blank patches
of the tape or start a new video when let's say 10 seconds of black is
reached.
    Any help is great. Please respond privately if you are a programmer that
would do it for contract
