Quicktime http streaming

While this may be part of a larger discussion... I'm wondering about how Quicktime streams over http.

Do they "wrap" the UDP/TCP content in an http shell so that firewalls think it's http traffic? Or is it really transformed some how. The question comes up because the university bought a Helix server license and wants to stop supporting the QT server we use for our QT content. We don't have "locked down" firewalls to test the clips If some is behind a fire wall that only allows port 80 traffice and would be willing to test let me know.

Thanks for any insight
