-Launch the QT Broadcaster Application
-Select the Video Tab and disable the Video Stream
-Select the Audio Tab and make sure the Audio Stream is enabled
-Deselect the Play-through speaker check box (to avoid feedback in
the case of capturing through the PowerBook's internal mic)
-Select the Compressor you want to use
-Select the Bit depth (N/A for AAC or AMR compression)
-Select the # of Channels (N/A for AMR compression)
-Make sure the the record to disk checkbox is checked
-Click Broadcast to start
-Click Stop to stop
-There will be a new movie titled "My Movie" in the ~/Movies/ folder
If you don't want to stream the broadcast to the web at the same time
you can enter some bogus settings in the network tab.

QuickTime Player Pro currently does not allow such a fine level of
control over audio recording properties, though that would be a
great feature request for a future version. Your professor friend
can record audio with very customized parameters using WhackedTV
(for instance, he/she could record a stereo signal from the built-
in audio and have it mixed down to mono AAC at 32 kbps). WhackedTV
is a sample code application which shows developers how to write
programs using QuickTime's Sequence Grabber, but a prebuilt
executable is included in the .dmg. Just double-click it and go.
Caveat - with greater power comes greater responsibility. It's not
as simple to use as QuickTime Player Pro's recording feature.

I've got a professor who wants to record his lectures on his
PowerBook using QuickTime Player Pro 7.
The default Audio Recording rate is 128 kbps stereo, more than is
needed.
Is there a way of reducing the rate? I don't see it in the
Recording Preferences. If not, it would be nice to have this....
Is there a way of eliminating/extracting one of the stereo tracks
in QT Pro, without recompressing, after the recording is saved, to
halve the file size?
I thought there was a way to do this in QT Pro 6, but can't find
it in v.7.
I know there is other voice recording software, i.e.
recorder.xhead, but was wondering if it could be done in QT Pro 7.
