Is what you are trying to accomplish is to distribute a pre-
installed, self-contained, database-driven web site on a CD/DVD that:
1) can be run directly from the CD/DVD (Read-only)
2) that can be copied onto a HDD and run read-write.
3) that can be run as a web server, standalone app (or both)
If so, a cohort and I developed a cross-platform ColdFusion-based
solution (called CFEverywhere) that may meet your needs.
All the components are Java based so it will run on any platform that
supports Java (Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac OS X, Mac OSX86, etc).
We used the Following Components:
1) Jetty J2ee Servlet Container and Web Server
2) Apache Derby Database (formerly IBM Cloudscape)
3) BlueDragon J2ee ColdFusion Engine
All of the components except BlueDragon are free, open-source and
have a liberal redistro license (unlike MySQL).
BlueDragon requires special licensing to redistro, but the mfgr, New
Atlanta, is very flexible and willing to do what it takes to make it
happen.
Let me know if you have questions.

Is there anything cross-platform out there that can act as a stand
alone web server for CD-ROM delivery ?
Would like to hook up my QT projects to a localhost database that
speaks php/mysql.
On the PC side, you have dwebPro. Wonder if there is a cross
platform equivalent ?
Or, is there an app like dwebPro that has Windows and Mac versions ?
