Quite a few Sony models are capable of converting 8mm analogue to digital output; you'd just play the 8mm tape with a firewire connection and you've got an iMovie to start with. If you are sure yours cannot do the job, borrow or rent one from a friend, store, etc. You need to do the conversion once, and it can all be done in a day.


Second, do rethink your desire to make a DVD. You will lose quality over the digital tapes you can make by outputting edited output back onto the recorder. And you can make many copies of same with no further degradation of the signal.
