What has quarz todo with it?
The file you are trying to open is a quartz composer file that is
playable through quicktime (QT7 added quartz composer tracks). The
RSS screen saver uses the same stuff, so I was suggesting it as an
alternative source of the same kind of media in order to isolate the
problem further.
