If the movie is DRM protected, it does  not matter what your using to
view WiMP on the Mac. MicroSoft does not support it's WiMP DRM
verification on the Mac and

In fact, it does support version 1 DRM licences, but not subsequent versions (which therefore still makes it a dud !)

Here are the steps listed in the msdn library for enabling DRM support on the media server to handle Mac WMP :

Thanks - for the link and I had looked at this in the past, but tat the time I was interested in WiMP 8 support.

In general license providers need not use licences later than version 1, but they mostly do. So in fact, "licence providers don't support DRM content for the Mac, because the client is crippeled" is what you meant to say ;-)

Yep. Even Microsoft's 8.0 or 9.0 Player doesn't support DRM on the Mac.  All the video providers I've seen require WiMP 8 or 9,  the media be verified with an internect connection using a user Id and password. The WiMP player or plugin on a Mac reports you don't have the correct digital rights to view the video, whereas the rest don't display video at all.

It doesn't really matter anyhow. I bought a cheap 2 gighz desktop PC with 512 megs Ram, 160 gig drive with 3 year warranty for less than it costs me to buy an extended 2 year warranty on my G4 1.25 gighz Mac Laptop and view the WiMP video on it. This will only become more convenient when Apple's boxes are all x86 and we can simply own one PC and reboot into WinTel when we want to watch DRM video.

TTYL..
