Sorry this thread has kind of gotten off the original track a little. I
understand iTunes DRM and why it's client side (do you think Apple servers
could encrypt 300 million songs? I don't think so) and how it's supposed to
restrict the use of digital files.
However, I was wondering if there's any way to encrypt QuickTime files
(picture and sound) in such a way that Microsoft can encrypt their windows
media files using "Windows Media DRM." So that files can be played, or
played for a defined term and individual controls can bet set on which
machine files can be played back on and if the files can be converted to
something else or not.
I've asked this question on the list every couple of months and I'm still
quite shocked that no one has built something that's secure, API-level and
multi-platform for one of the most popular digital media technologies out
there! Is this still the case?
Thanks!
Jamie
