DVD Studio Pro User Manual, Chapter 2, page 58 lists the supported
resolutions for HD DVD.
Chapter 2, page 49 talks about using 24 fps video.
Ugh, I was hoping they had just left something out. So, it just
won't support 24p, or even 25p. if I import 24p assets, it'll add
3:2 pulldown and flag them for progressive playback. So, playback
quality will be fine, but compression efficiency and decode
complexity won't be as optimal. I'm thinking about upsampling my
movie to 25p with Cinema Tools and encoding it that way...
I had thought that the HD DVD format supported native 24p. Is
this a feature coming to a later version of DVDSP4, or was I mistaken?
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a copy of the HD DVD
0.9 spec references by the manual?
DVD Studio Pro 4 Late Breaking News, page 4, states:
"Encoding H.264 Assets for Use in HD DVD Projects
When you export a movie from Final Cut Pro or Motion and want to
use the H.264 format, you must use the H.264 for HD DVD presets
included with Compressor to ensure the video is compatible with
DVD Studio Pro. Do not export through QuickTime. If you make a
custom H.264 preset in Compressor, select the Multi-pass setting
and set the bit rate to18 Mbps or less to ensure DVD compatibility. "
Ah, I didn't check Late Breaking News. Good to know that I need
to use one of those presets. However, it seems very odd that the
1080 height, which is clearly legal in DVDSP4, isn't an option within
the Compressor HD H.264 preset.
