Did you compare quality? I would personally rather have it take longer
and look better. In the past quicktime MPEG4 encoding did not look as
sharp or clean (less artifacts) than even other free mpeg4 encoders
such as Divx. I think apple spent a LOT of time and energy making an
amazing H.264 encoder. I have tested the quality to others and the
others don't come close.
I do have to say it does take a LONG TIME to dualpass encode clips, but
the results are stunning and nothing else has come close to this.

Compressor 2 is pretty impressive feature wise, but some of the
stuff can be slow. I started a test encode of a 90 second clip to
upsample from 480i60 to 720p60 with all the crazy upsampling

total for the process*! On a 2x2.7! In "Highest Performance" mode!

Does Apple's dual G5 64 bit process in a similar fashion to a dual
Pentium 64 Bit P4 - with "Hyperthreading". A few weeks ago I posted
some comparisons of Qt7 to other H/264 encoders. If I remember
correctly Nero other another package encoded the same H.264 project in
half the time that QT7 did.
