Although I have posted some H.264 comparison site info here before - which favoured Nero/Ateme's quality over QT7 - these tests are not extensive. At the same time WIMP9 seems to be inferior to Nero/Ateme's HP h.264/AVC. Dooms 9's Codec forum is "member collectively" testing different H.264/AVC codecs. There are also extensive discussions at Doom of QT7's features or lack of specific features in comparison to other codecs. One would think that the environment right now would be perfect timing for Quicktime to go "all out" to produce the absolute best H.264 codec - and just eliminate the competition.

Did you compare quality? I would personally rather have it take longer and look better. In the past quicktime MPEG4 encoding did not look as sharp or clean (less artifacts) than even other free mpeg4 encoders such as Divx. I think apple spent a LOT of time and energy making an amazing H.264 encoder. I have tested the quality to others and the others don't come close.

I do have to say it does take a LONG TIME to dualpass encode clips, but the results are stunning and nothing else has come close to this.
