Does H.264 impose equipment considerations for internet video site developers?

Having bought the wrong camcorder at one point, I am anxious to know if I will need a new camcorder (I have a pro-sumer 2yr. old cam) or is H.264 "equipment-blind"?

Though we don't know enough to contribute much to this list, we find it an invaluable resource and appreciate all the help.
