Well, I guess if H.264 wins hands down even with 1/4 the bandwidth
then I guess a direct comparison isn't really necessary... though I
must admit, I haven't seen it as THAT radical.
Roger
I am pleasantly surprised by how much better - for me - that QT7/H.264
is compared to Sorenson 3 with some simple testing.
Oh, I totally agree the difference is there and obvious... I was just
pointing out it's hard to make a real comparison when you encode to
radically different bitrates. I always target the same bitrate for all
clips in a test, so that the only variable is quality - otherwise if
both quality and bitrate are variable it's pretty arbitrary.
Of course, if your H264 had both lower bitrate AND higher quality then
it's obviously superior... you just don't know by how much.
I haven't done any extensive testing on other types of video - in this
case the video was of parked buses - not much motion and no
transitions.
Heheh, well yeah, selecting good source and selecting proper encoding
options is important, otherwise you have to heavily qualify your
choices (as I did in my H264 color test) to cover your butt.
