Thank you guys for the good info. I ended up downloading Stuffit,
unzipped the Windows Media.sitx file to get to the Windows Media
Installer, installed Windows Media. Net net: it works, however,
every time I click on a wmv file, iTunes gets started (it's the
default app for this type of file).
How do I change that, i.e., how do I make Windows Media the default
app for wmv files?
I'm new to the Mac (coming from Windows), and I was wondering if
the Mac had the equivalent of Windows' ability to let you define
default apps for specific file types.

Select the file, type command-i (Get Info).. under the "Open With"
section, pull down the menu, select Windows Media Player (which sets
THIS file to be opened with WMP), and then click "Change All" to set
*all* .wmv files to be opened with WMP.
