Yes, the MPEG-4 standard, which does not include any use of AVI - Video for Windows has been unsupported by Microsoft since 1996. H.264 in AVI is not standard.


Kind of like DivX saying they were "MPEG-4" when in fact they used a proprietary combination of MPEG-4 video codec, MP3 audio in an AVI wrapper. MPEG-4 is, by definition, .mp4.
