Director is probably not the best way to go for this (i used to use
director for multimedia work years ago, but nowadays there are
better develoment environments available).
Are you on Mac or Win?
Either way you could build an app in pd using GEM
(http://gem.iem.at/) that could ouput the video, handle
fading/cross-fading, and swap new movies (even use network streams)
on the fly. Pd and GEM are open source, and the user community is
very helpful.
Alternately you could use Max/MSP/Jitter (http://cycling74.com/),
which is a little easier to work with and has a larger user
community, but it is expensive!
Unless you already know Director and Lingo, you *can* use it for
this, but if you have to learn new software anyway, go with either
Pd or Max.
Feel free to email me off-list if you have questions about either of these.

Hello I have a similar inquiry hat is relate to Jens thread about
playing videos across two screen, here it goes.
I am creating visual content for a dance show in which I have two
large video projections side by side. I am creating several QT
movies that will be 1280x480 or 1600x600. I would like to playback
the movies strectched across both projectors. I will also need to be
able to setup triggers that will allow me to cross fade from one clip
to the next predetemined clip. Someone mentioned that Director would
be a good program to use for this. My question is would it be
possible to program the movies in order and then use mouse clicks or
the space bar to trigger the crossfade from one clip to the next
without seeing anything on screen?
Also the content might be changing on a daily basis so would it be
possible to swap QT's without taking a huge amount of time?
If not director then what could be used to do all this?
Any help? Thanks in advance.
