Anyone QT multicasting commercially ?

I am trying to get up to speed on multicasting as a commercially deployable solution.
Seems there is conflicting info on whether multicasting is an 'ivory tower / Internet 2' thing or commercially dependable solution that can be used in the general market.

If multicasting is not a 'professional' solution, what are the alternatives ?

Ultimately, if feasible, I would like to send one live stream out to 7-8 different servers to distribute the load...
For this particular company, unicasting can not supply the bandwidth needed for their audience.
