Quicktime iScript.msi errors

Hi all - just a problem report -

Anybody having trouble with the QT standalone installer for Windows ? I'm using Windows 2000 here, recent install of .NET2 and VS2005.

I had a perfectly working QT install of the "QT7 public preview" last week but now it's nagging that it's expired and must be updated.

Currently, despite being fully up to date with patches, I'm getting an installer error detailed in the linked images :
1) http://www.directstreaming.com/downloads/isscripterror.gif
2) http://www.directstreaming.com/downloads/isscripterror2.gif

The install steps ask for language : selected English (United States)
Then the QuickTime.msi unpacks
Next the ISScript11.msi unpacks

Status screen shows Quicktime 7.0.3.50 (latest standalone download version available)

Steps to repro :

The licence agreement is shown and agreed to, then the install directory (standard H:\Applications\Quicktime) is chosen. Then the "removing applications" screen is shown as normal, followed by the first error message "The installscript engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup".

The application then shows the final screen, and pops up the (useless to most users) error shown on image 2 - not a lot of help as there's no reference to the MSDN page needed (and most users would have no idea what MSDN meant !)

In my /program files/common/InstallSheild directory, I had a branch for v7 drivers. Checking with this site http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158 suggested making sure later versions were available too so I manually downloaded and installed the ISScript11.msi package from Installsheild.

As you can see, that's already being installed as part of the QT unpacking process - however the installsheild site suggests if the installing program "version" is shown as "7" then v7 should be sufficient. Why would the QT installer be set for v7 in the file version, but unpack v11 during install, and why should it fail ?

I've also made sure to have the most updated "windows installer" 3.1 (v2) available, KB893803-v2, with no change to the outcome. To check further, I tried the iTunes/QT composite package. iTunes installed OK, but again QT failed when installing with an "error 3" something.

Clues / Suggestions ? Currently my test machines QT is "offline" due to obscure error combinations !

Cheers - Neil
