OK seems something's badly wrong with the uninstaller on my windows
system, no real explanation.
The control panel's add/remove programs seemed to think QT was
already uninstalled and "would I like to remove the QT icon from
add/remove programs", which I did. Still no luck using the "uninstall
quicktime" shortcut from the programs menu, and the QT applet in
control panel remained where it was.
I did have a stroke of luck though.
The current version of Quicktime public preview was installed in
H:\Applications\Quicktime. When asked where to install, the 4th time,
I suggested H:\Applications\Quicktime2, and was rewarded with what
appeared to be a complete re-registration of components and install
to the new directory.
Only time will tell if the install-to-new-dir rather than
overwrite-current-dir went problem free, so I'll keep the 'old files'
about for a few weeks just in case. Time to go testing now.
