Extending my own question, I see that there is a GetRectangle string _expression_ so the question then becomes why AC_QuickTime.js doesn't make use of it to programmatically set the Height and Width of the object/embed code to the native size of the movie, at least as a default that can be overridden.

It is a chicken and egg problem: AC_QuickTime generates the html needed to embed a movie, and you can't use the plug-in's _javascript_ interface until a movie has been embedded.
