Re: latest Flip-4-Mac stability/usability

Frank,

1. I am no longer "the man" for WMT, more like the enemy as my company has stated to the WMT team that we will be adding Flash to our delivery options this year.

2. WMT on a Mac.
A. Pre-Intel macs running OSX simple use WMP9
B Intel Macs - here is info from our support group which also makes the slide shows work:
If you have Flip4Mac installed, go to System Preferences and disable.
Go to Applications folder and ctrl-click your browser icon (Safari, Firefox, etc).
Select: Get Info
Under general, check mark/click "Open using Rosetta".
Now, Quit and Reopen your browser and go to the webcast you are having trouble with. It may take a minute or two to load (it may appear to be "connecting...") and it will. Once it does, you will see the slides move.
Please remember to revert these settings when complete otherwise your browser will continue to function in Rosetta mode. It may help to do this an a secondary internet browser if you plan to view webcasts often.

3. Codecs - sorry, don't know codec situation well as we control our codecs and always have to use legacy (WM7V, WM8V with WMA9).

4. DRM - no DRM for Flip4Mac as far as I know

5. OSX stability with Flip4Mac - Can't help here as we tell people to disable the product.

Wish I could be more of a help.

He Ray, thanks...."you're the man" when it comes to WMV streaming.

Do you have to do anything special to get WMP9 to run under Rosetta? I don't see a setting in Get Info.

Also, do you know if Flip-4-Mac actually renders OSX any more unstable, or is it only a matter of being the less preferred solution for playing WMV on the Mac.

Finally, is there a list of any included codec differences between WMP9 and Flip-4-Mac, on the Mac?

Or in how they handle DRM?

I can do my own homework, but if you have a handy site it would help.

Thanks, and happy streaming...

Frank,

We stream a lot of Windows Media and our best Mac solution is WMP 9 running in Rosetta mode. We are hoping Flip4Mac will become stable and equal in features with WMP bit in the short term WMP9 can still easily be made to work.
