Re: latest Flip-4-Mac stability/usability

Hey Frank,

I've been using the Flip4Mac codec since it came out over a year ago and it
works great, and for the most part seamlessly (see below), unless you are
trying to play drm-restricted content. Later on I bought the version that
allows saving wmv to mov for my workplace. I don't have Final Cut, but have
had no problems with Firewire capture with the codec present. Microsoft has
stated that wmv played in this way will actually have better performance
than via the old WMP Player, which hadn't been updated since late 2003.

There are some browser behaviors to watch out for if you are involved in web
development (following info was current as of 1.2006): Safari users will
always view Windows Media content via the QuickTime plug-in, however,
Firefox users will view the same content through the Windows Media plug-in,
if present. If you are currently using plug-in detection to present Windows
Media content, keep this in mind as Safari and Mac Firefox users may
actually be able to view this content without having the Windows Media
Player installed and therefore may be locked out of your content.
