Perhaps the folks who make Flip4Mac (Telestream) will come out with a Flip4Win product that is also free and extends WiMP (is it even extensible via third party components as QuickTime is?) to be able to play MPEG-4.
I have long thought that it is highly ironic that one of the main MPEG-4 patent holders (Microsoft) does not have a media player capable of playing standards-based .mp4 files.
Really, MPEG-4 is where Apple and Microsoft could and should compliment one another and thereby do the right thing for all of their customers. We should be able to put an ISO/IEC .mp4 file in Powerpoint on either platform and reasonably expect it to play coss-platform.
