Re: cross-platform video in PowerPoint

Also, the good folks at Orban have recently come out with a free AAC/ aacPlus plug-in for WM Player.

have not yet studied all the features yet

Maybe they would be interested in working on the video?
It probably gets into licensing issues.

But you are right, there is no excuse for Microsoft not to include mp4 playback in its consumer products, besides Zune.

Subject: cross-platform video in PowerPoint

Perhaps the folks who make Flip4Mac (Telestream) will come out with a Flip4Win product that is also free and extends WiMP (is it even extensible via third party components as QuickTime is?) to be able to play MPEG-4.

I have long thought that it is highly ironic that one of the main MPEG-4 patent holders (Microsoft) does not have a media player capable of playing standards-based .mp4 files.

Really, MPEG-4 is where Apple and Microsoft could and should compliment one another and thereby do the right thing for all of their customers. We should be able to put an ISO/IEC .mp4 file in Powerpoint on either platform and reasonably expect it to play coss- platform.
