Re: Sony HDR-UX1 to Mac connection?

The bottom line is that the compression ratio is so high that the image is almost unacceptable for anything but HOME MOVIES.

However, looks like industry is beginning to shift to H.264 - for everything.

For example, Panasonic is going PRO with AVC HD (if I understand correctly) - it's the AJ-HPX2000. An option for the AJ-HPX2000: "AVC-Intra 100 (1920/4:2:2/10bits) or AVC- Intra 50 (1440/4:2:0/10bits)". And yes it's not cheap (but renting any high end camcorder right now is $1000 a day - choke!).

As well check out - notice 6 Mbps to 12 Mbps:

Telairity’s H.264 encoding platform is an essential technology for building cost-effective HDTV services that deliver low-latency, high-quality HD video at bit rates of 6 Mbps to 12 Mbps. ........... In addition to satellite broadcasting, applications for the Telairity H.264 HD encoder will include news and sports streaming, content aggregation, cable, terrestrial and IPTV distribution, VOD, and video servers.

............. Operating in real time, it uses the Main Profile, Level 4 H.264/AVC standard for HD video compression.
