We serve a large number of university students with our QTSS
servers. Long ago I enabled streaming over port 80, and that solved
most of our problems. We just discovered a user who could not access
our content (Windows XP). Troubleshooting by phone left us stumped.
Uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime, checked the transport (was
automatic, made changes to settings, no luck). Did my first remote
trip (fortunately was just a block off campus), and a new MacBook Pro
we brought couldn't play the media either when plugged into this
large student household's network. Switched to port 7070 (with
HTTP), and all was well. The house has a router that goes through
Qwest DSL. Is the issue some config on the router's firewall/ port
forwarding, the ISP, or possibly some P2P file sharing on the network
(we saw plenty of those kinds of programs)? We're trying to update
our troubleshooting page. Thanks.
Bob
