QT volume scale

I've been playing around with volume levels, and I'm wondering what the scale is for scripting the volume level. There are a number of resources that say volume is 0-100:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/embed2.html#volume
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61012#volume

This one doesn't say anything about the scale:

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/QuickTime/Conceptual/ QTScripting_JavaScript/index.html

However, this page says: 0 to 255 is in the normal range. A setting of 256 to 384 sets the sound to overdrive.

http://www.apple.com/applescript/quicktime/

Of course, this is about scripting QT using applescript, not about object/embed tags - however, in playing around with different values in object/embed, it seems like the volume is going from 0-255, not 0-100. Google turns up lots of non-apple sites with 0-100 scale, as well as 0-255 scale - so what's the real answer here?

Thanks,
SR
