Hi, Tim!
One way to accomplish hot spot creation in cubics:
VRWorx 2.0 (and SceneWorx 1.0) from VR ToolBox - http://www.vrtoolbox.com/
Pros: You create your hotspots while viewing the actual cubic in real time
- not just in the six faces of the proto-cubic. Hot spot creation is a snap
and you can create multiple hotspot types (i.e. - link, still object, URL,
etc.) and create single multinode QuickTime VR movies. Also, using the
still object hot spot type, you can place text in the QTVR Player's
"message box".
Note: I have found it necessary to have "MakeCubicPPC v1.1.1a2"
re-interpret the RealViz output, otherwise VR Worx 2.0 presents you with an
inaccurate screen preview (thanks to Holly Daggers who pointed me this
direction).
Cons: You can not put hot spots in areas that are part of the top or bottom
faces of the cube. Its pretty rare in my experience though to need hot
spots in these locations. (Sistine Chapel?)
VR Worx 2.0 was created before QT 5, and while it can represent Cubics, it
can't create hotspots beyond what a cylinder could display.

Another way to create hotspots is to export from RealViz Stitcher using the
"Cubic" option (not "Cubic QTVR") which will create the six files of the
cubic faces. Create your hotspot files based on these faces using a program
such as PhotoShop. Re-assemble faces & corresponding hot spot files in
"MakeCubicPPC".
Pros: "MakeCubicPPC" is free.
Cons: Then what? I don't know of a way to have the hot spots put text in
the QTVR window's "message box", or how to create linked nodes that are
output to a single QuickTime movie, or how to assign URLs to the hotspots.
Perhaps Ken Turkowski, Eric Blanpied, or others, can be more helpful here.
