The main difference between the Flash plug in and QT is that one is a whole architecture (QT) and the other is just a plug in. The QT download can be quite large in MB while the Flash Plug In I think is still below 1 MB, and that's without considering the installation process which is much simpler for Flash Plug In than for QuickTime.
