BTW, the last time I checked, Flash 5 is a plugin that may need to be
downloaded just like QuickTime. It is included with some versions of
Windows now, but it isn't as ubiquitous as Java.
The main difference between the Flash plug in and QT is that one is a
whole architecture (QT) and the other is just a plug in. The QT
download can be quite large in MB while the Flash Plug In I think is
still below 1 MB, and that's without considering the installation
process which is much simpler for Flash Plug In than for QuickTime.
Quite true. The Windows installation process of QT by itself would be a
reason to use Flash! And Flash, like Windows, is also a much more
prevalent technology for the mass market. If making the content was
easier, I would probably deliver Object and Pano VRs with it.
Unfortunately, I am not an actionscript guru, and unless Macromedia adds
a VR component to Flash MX in the future, the only apparent way to make
VRs is through hand assembly and custom coding. (But I haven't tried out
the Flash pano "template" that CubicConverter 2 can make, yet...) For
right now, I add Flash to my QuickTime movies to do the same kind of
"multimedia" VRs, but even this requires multiple authoring programs and
some tricks to link the Flash and VR. Some of the Shockwave demos I've
seen are looking quite promising, though.
