I see this is a hot topic ; )
For what it's worth - here are my opinions...
> Maybe Apple could make some money by licensing an updated

> LE, to manufacturers of digital cameras.
We were doing exactly that in 1998-99. When I was product manager for QTVR
we were about half way through development of a "light" version of QTVRAS
code named "Duncan"... I had been talking to many digital camera companies
and things seemed to be going well... Then upper management pulled the plug
on Duncan. It was unfortunate but they had their reasons. I was
disappointed of course but for budget reasons I guess it had to be done.
I think there might be a good opportunity for someone to develop an iVR
application to go with the iMacs and consumer digital cameras. If we could
get funding I'd consider being product manager! Hmmmm....
QTVRAS ON OS X
As far as an OS X update to QTVRAS - I highly doubt it but you just never
know with Apple. There must be some reason they are keeping QTVRAS on the
price list and Apple store:
1. It's making money for them but not enough to justify updating it.
2. They have no idea it's on the pricelist.
I have a feeling it's making money for them because in order to keep it on
the pricelist they have to order more inventory from time to time so someone
is aware it's on the price list. I doubt it's making enough to justify an
OS X update though and will probably remain on the list until Classic goes
away completely.

I definitely agree with this! Show Apple what projects you are doing... It
can only help QTVR.
I personally don't view QTVR playback as being in danger of being pulled
from QT any time soon. QTVR gives QT an added advantage over competing
multimedia technologies. I don't see Apple adding anything to QTVR. I hope
they continue to maintain it's compatibility within QT. I say I "hope"
because of Ken's departure. I don't know who is working on QTVR components
these days.
> The problem is that none of those applications (VR Worx & RealViz
> Stitcher) support fisheye stitching!!!
Well, PTMAC (via PanoTools), PanoWeaver, and iPIX all support fisheye
lenses... I would also like to see others support it but you have to hand
it to the developers who are doing so.
> If those developers are really committed to cubics, they should be
> giving fisheye support
Well, I don't know about you but a cubic VR movie shot with 2 or 3 fisheye
images has distortion that is not very appealing when view next to one shot
using multiple rows of images. I don't think it's very easy to get rid of
that distortion from an engineering point of view (meaning it might be very
expensive to do.)
