Re: Objects inFlash

I like these examples of flash movies, but all of them seem to trigger an animation rather than being truely interactive with the mouse (which works, but I'm thinking of my own application).

Keep in mind that I know almost nothing about flash.

And I only know a little bit more than that... ;-)

Now, since object VR is a grid of animation cells would it be possible to either

1) drag through those cells like you do in QTVR?

or

2) change the picture with a mouse over on the quadrant on the screen a-la "Absolute" setting in QTVRAS.

The link that Maqued Hanna posted (to his Mazda 6 Flash Object VR) was an example of a very QTVR-like interface. Click and drag for direction control, with autorotation after a pause, and even spin rate sensitivity. So it can get much closer, and I'm sure eventually it can be equal to QTVR, but I also think Flash's handling of raster (pixel) images is still in its infancy, while QT has had many years head start.

From what I've seen, the Shockwave 3D VR method (of mapping photos onto 3D objects) gives the most QTVR-like control (and many nifty extras) but is very video card and processor (for 3D accel) dependant. Plus, for Object VRs, you would never get photographic quality unless your polys in the object were smaller than pixels (think sloooow) or you used a similar photo-swapping method to Flash. On the site with the ADR Shockwave Pano (nifty) there is an excellent Object/Pano combination of the Space Needle in Seattle (has an independantly animated blinky-light and everything). The only slight detraction is that the visible polygons on the Needle that make is less-than-real. I think this is why for cars or other complex shapes, photography is much faster, simpler, and looks better.

Just my 2 pence... again.
