Been shooting VR since 1995, but mostly panoramas. When shooting
single-row object VRs, are most people using camcorders or still
cameras? I've been looking into it, and it seems like the object rigs
that Kaidan's selling are geared towards video, in that they seem to
offer smooth-panning rather than click-stopped panning (they aren't
explicit in this regard, though, and I could be mistaken).
My primary concern is image quality. I've got a nice Canon GL-1 that
would do high-quality progressive-scanning MiniDV footage, but there's
no way it will be as detailed or artifact-free as high-res images from
my Nikon 990.
So how are people dealing with this generally?
And what about removing the backgrounds? Manually rotoscoping 20 or 32
frames per object in Photoshop is going to get awfully tedious... Is
blue/greenscreening the way? Or just go with a black or white
background and hope to light it in such a way as to minimize the rig's
visibility?
