Where was your source for this figure?

You can find one source of figures on media plugins from Macromedia itself:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/player_census/flashplayer/

Obviously they will only present data that helps them to sell their products, so keep in mind that the independent organization that did the census is using a lot of averaging and garnered this data from only 2,000 samples that were "internet representative." So certain market segments will have radically different precentages. (ie: If you are selling Macintosh software, it is a safe bet that that more than 47% of your target market has QuickTime...)

Still these stats are good things to keep in mind while the "plug-in Wars" take over where the "browser Wars" left off. Macromedia would prefer that Flash be viewed as something closer to Acrobat or even HTML, as an all-around data delivery method. This fabled "ubiquity" opens up the corporate PC market on all levels, which I would imagine is the greatest "number of eyeballs and dollars" out there, in marketing-speak.
