My own experience from panoramas.dk points against figures much higher.
When I have had features pointing directly on a Fullscreen page with no
information from the link saying that you need quicktime to see it, I
usually have 60-70 % of the hits downloading the movie.
This of course includes those who installs the movie at the access.

Actually a recent Forrester study pegged the numbers much higher with WiMP coming in around 96%, Real in the high 80's and QuickTime at around 80%. QuickTime's GROWTH is more the real story, its been growing far and away faster than Real over the last couple of years gain ground while Real has been loosing ground. The release of iTunes for Windows (which is based on QuickTime and installs QuickTime) and the popularity of the iPod. Add to that the upcoming release of the HP Clone of the iPod and the fact that HP is now shipping all their new machines with QuickTime (iTunes) installed and you've got explosive growth in QuickTime adoption.

The EU ruling forcing Microsoft to remove WiMP Windows also could level the playing field, since now all three players would need to be downloaded and installed by end users. We'll have to see how that plays out.
