small file hexicam shot

600k of the cartop panning video.

I mean, one of the cameras is STILL a little off, and it was too sunny...
but I really feel like the hexicam experiment has been fairly successful...
(thanks largely to stitching by Dennis Gliksman. It has to be really good with this many pixels...)

This rig with $750 worth of tiny cameras could be used to make drives of
all the roads of the world. I could sit on the web and drive the planet...
If a zone got a little boring I could just click a map to get to my destination...

the project:

At least for looking at real estate it gives a nice context of where a house is...
how far to drive to schools, stores, job.

Adding one $600 high res board cam to the front shot might work...but the reason
this rig can use a single hard drive on a laptop, is that the resolution is low...
(6 vids in in realtime, recording!)

For more res we'd have to add more hard drives...

oh and these nodes are 10k each! so here's 395 nodes in a file that's
under 4 meg. (badly named)

(good thing spriteoramas don't adhere to the 256 node multinode rule)

As of this week, we've got everything automated. The video grab, the creation of the stitch files, the stitch,
the creation of the video, the making it pan... it's all labour free. (takes hours for the machine to stitch though...)

A package might become available through vrtools to do all this. We'd like to collect letters of interest in
buying a product that can make shots like these and stitch them and display them...(maybe in realtime)
write <email@hidden> and we'll get an idea of whether it would be worth it to develop...

If nothing else it's been a fun thing to work out...
