I just done the same experiments but I already had the link to the easy download page. I tested first and found that my 1 year old XP I got with my Virtual PC had a Microsoft Java machine. And after installing the SUN java I made some searches to see what was left of it and it seems that the Sun Java did not remove it. However it changed the options in Explorer to use Sun instead which is good. However as you say the download is 14.5 mb And if you use the first option you do not get any information at all how big the installation is. And what about the Netscape Mozilla option. Do you actually need a different version for it? What if you use both Explorer and Netscape. Or OPERA or Firefox Now I want to know what happens if I enter a page with JAVA without having it . What link do I get then. Is it just as easy as with Quicktime?. With Virtual PC it is easy to test. I just make a new copy of it and uninstall all Java.
