Your 17-35 will be perfect for making high resolution multirow cubics with a head like the Manfrotto. However you need to take around 32 images and learn to stitch multirow. Many people do, but you can not make action shots like this one http://www.virtualdenmark.dk/qtvr/vrmag/image_6.html or the ones Jook and many others do. You can also do some very sharp and beautiful cylindric. This was made with my Sigma 15-30 mm which is very close to the canon 17-35 http://www.panoramas.dk/dk/f_jelling.html It was stitched auto with the Canon Photostitch (you have it on your CD) and almost no manual adjusting. Photostitch is one of the best and fastest cylindric stitchers available . A full 14.000 pixels stitch takes less than 7 minutes. You can not do that with QTVRAS. Unfortunately it has a limit at a 20 mm equivalent lens. My new 12-24 mm Sigma does not work at 12 mm which is 19 mm equivalent.
