Re: Extract from 8mm fisheye to top cube face for manual compositing

Hi Roger,

What do you normally use for remapping fisheye images?

Extract/Convert your circular image in Panorama Tools - Remap or Adjust application. Or use PTmac /PTgui front end for it.
Defish is also a very good option for a rectlinear output. Defish is free. Visit Ken Turkowskis Cyberworld at
http://www.worldserver.com/turk/ (Thanks Ken for this neat aid).
Panotools is also free ( Thank you Prof. Dersch), however you might have to pay for the delimited fov version or plug ins. The current free version is restricted to 1600 fov. But then again, if you only want to use the center portion of your image within a 160 0 fov ( you could specify the region with roll, pitch and yaw if need) it will work for you just fine. Find your copy at:
http://www.path.unimelb.edu.au/%7edersch/
PTmac or PTgui is great, very easy and well worth its price of around $50. Find it at kekus.com for mac and ptgui.com for PC.

PS plugin PTools - Remap (no correction for a,b,c and d)
Set your preferences.
Setting : Convert from Fisheye horizontal to Psphere 1800 hfov and vfov. Hit OK. Image converts. Done.

PsPlugin PTools _ Adjust
Set Preferences.
Convert from Fisheye horizontal to Ppshere or Rectlinear give it the in- and output fov, pixel width and height, you may set your your yaw, pitch or roll if you want. Give the correct option your fisheye lenses a,b, c, d coefficients and click ok. Image converts. Done.

Oh, do not forget to........crop your circular image to its circular dimensions so it is centered before remapping in any of the mentioned apps.

I might have been a bit too complicated and too short on this. Here is a nice tutorial from John Houghton at
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/j.houghton/360tute.htm (Thank you John Houghton)

Happy remapping and have a mighty good day.

Can anyone help me? I need to extract some details from fisheye (8mm on Canon 10D) images for the top face of a cube from the upper parts of the image circles so I can manually fix some stitching errors. Are there any tutorials out there?

Best,

Roger
