I've seen a number of attempts by individual publishers to raise awareness for the interactive use of VR. I've made my attempt to, for how much it is worth, and I hereby contribute it to the discussion. <http://www.photopla.net/qtvr.swf> (for QuickTime, SPi-V, DevalVR, Pano2QTVR-Flash and the other viewers that use the SHIFT & CTRL key to zoom) or <http://www.photopla.net/java.swf> for ptviewer. I am sure there are better graphic designers here on the list that can produce a more appealing button, and I think it would be of value to everybody if there was a standard button (that would develop consumer recognition) available for download to put on any website displaying VR and wishing to put the button on it.
Ideally such a button would be:
* as small as possible, so not to take away from the full screen experience
* as neutral as possible, so to integrate visually on any graphic design out there on the web
* be graphic rather than textual so that no translation is required (to reduce the maintenance / update effort)
* animated to attract attention
* fitted with a switch to turn it off, possibly permanently (cookie), from the display of seasoned VR drivers
* freely available to any webmaster displaying VR on their pages.
Who wants to improve on my initial design? source code and images availabe.
Yuv
