Re: FireFox 2.0 & QTVR problems ?

Hans - I don't have a problem playing any of the VR's in Safari (2.0.4).  I was also able to open up the ones on your test page successfully with Safari (I did not test all of them).  Though the performance in Safari was not great until fully loaded - it was still acceptable.

The problem for me is only with FireFox 2.0.1.

I had been able to use FireFox 1.5 with out any of the performance problems I remember previous to version 1.5.  Things were great, until 2.0.

Now, with version 2.0 - it appears very badly broken.

I tried your suggestion of moving the' QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' but that did not appear to help (I cleared the FireFox cache and closed the browser before attempting to load my VR's).

Moreover, the VR's on my site have no wired content at all - not even preview images.  They were generated by Cubic Converter.  Opening them up in QT Pro shows no additional tracks whatsoever.

I do agree with you though that this is a nasty bug and I hope it gets fixed soon.

I just updated to 2.0 to check.
The problem is the same which for almost 2 years  has affected all QTVR with additions (sprites, gif) in Safari .

This is my test page about it from last summer but my first post about this problem is from 2005.

The reason is an additional plugin on Mac which is installed each time you update  Quicktime.
Name is QuickTime Plugin.webplugin and you find it in the main Library/Internet Plug-Ins

Remove it and the QTVR movies will work perfect.

I have never  been able to find out what  this plugin is supposed to be used for.
According to some info it was only used for Safari but I have during the last 2 years only found 1 video which did not work without this plugin.

As you can see from the above test page it only affects QTVR with sprites, logos, hotspots and previews.
At least this was the effect on Safari.

However it now  affects all QTVR movies in Firefox 2.0.

I am tired of this and I want some respons NOW from the developers of Quicktime/ Firefox or Safari.
Who is responsible for this problems. As it only affected Safari I thought it was a Safari problem but now I do not Know.
The fact that all users of Firefox are affected is a disaster.
I have a lot of Mac/ Firefox users as visitors and  now it does not help just removing all additions to the movies.

The last 7 days  3.4% of my visitors used Mac/Fiefox 2.0
Thats 2.300 visitors

I just did a search for it in Google

It looks like it is not just QTVR which has problems with this plugin.

Question is , What does it do good for?

Hans
