Hi Scott
Yes I will def be creaming as much publicity from this as I can ;)
I have a feeling it will take a LOT longer than I have planed, so have
booked 2 whole months off to do it. I have so far tested 7 cameras; luckily
I have a very good relationship with a photography shop, so they have been
very kind in lending me cameras to test. They are going to be selling
thousands of pounds worth of kit in the end, so they should do really.
My brief for a website was simply one line
"We want the best nightclub website in Newcastle upon Tyne" (England).
So I figured this would do a dam good attempt lol.
When it is all released I will be putting a lot of info on how it was done
on my site, but until then, I don’t really want to give away all the info.
Has anybody any suggestions or advice, as I would be grateful for any help?
Regards
Ian

I trust you will let us all know when we can see it. There will be lots of
interest.
We are using 50 cameras, but KOKOKAKA used 100 (if you count the frames in
flash, by just taping the mouse).
The Ikea stuff was definitely one motion controlled video camera. You can
find several discussions about the production by the people involved with a
Google search. Plus there is the behind the scenes images and video.
I am fascinated by your 50 camera setup. I was about to ask what the least
expensive remotely fireable digital camera might be to accomplish something
like this. Would you be so kind to give us more details???
By careful though as the whole process is under a strict Patent by Digital
Air http://www.virtualcamera.com/license.html who invented it.
I have to wonder about how defensible the patents really are. If you check
the Wikipedia and other entries on "bullet time" you will see that the
technique has been around for a couple decades, possibly as early as 1975
but certainly 1981. In any case the earliest reference I noticed in Digital
Air's patent application was an article from 1996. But take a look at this
10/1994 Suede - The Wild Ones Video. Some scenes had people holding very
still as the camera moves around but some seem impossible without a multi
still camera solution and it is often referenced as an early example of
this. I also found this history of Bullet Time technique revealing.
Certainly, Digital Air couldn't defend a patent on the general technique and
they certainly did not invent it.
