source for spherical mirrors?: followup

My apologies for being delayed in getting back to a number of you with my thanks for your suggestions on spherical mirrors. I had wanted to report on my tests at the same time.

To date, I've tried 2 mirror balls: a 1.75 in. chromed ball bearing from bocabearings.com and a 2+ in. juggling ball (dube.com). Unfortunately, neither gives a sharp enough image. At the scale I'm dealing with (desktop with coffee cups as stand-ins for the macro-entities like insects that I would like to shoot), it appears that it really requires a true mirror. Both of the balls seem highly reflective, but you can see small surface scratches, which at this scale are large in relation to the subjects, as are any surface imperfections. I don't feel that I can go to a larger diameter ball, since I would like to be able to drop this into a bee hive or other insect grouping to get a shot. A couple of you suggested some sources of true mirrors and I'm pursuing that currently.

Thanks to you all for your help. It's great to have such a responsive resource as this list!
