I did some checking on the QT/flash player and found this article from april

Which notably mentions turning off the qhtm setting in mime settings if you
wish for the flash plug to play flash media.
I cannot do that in this upgrade.
Reading between the lines though, perhaps this is something to do with the
iPhone and having a text link to a movie?

Default setting is OFF BTW and there is a big fat USE DEFAULT button beside
those custom mime setting options. Doh!

Now I have my QT settings at enable flash, the opening settings, and flash
media (in misc settings) OFF.
Seems to have the desired effect for me. Support of Flash 5 stuff, and not
hijacking of the flash media. Aka Liveleak, youtube etc.

Indeed.
WTF happened with QT commandeering the flash media, I do not know.
Especially if it is OFF by default.
Hurrah for hotspots.
