I know the iPhone doesn't support playing QTVR directly via
QuickTime - but does anyone know - or has anyone seen any demos - of
it playing QTVR through the phone's Safari browser?
I would *love* to know whether there's any way at all to play
panoramas of any kind on the iPhone.
if the iPhone is NOT capable of doing any of these things can anyone
suggest good solutions for handheld demonstrations of interactive
panoramas?
Good solutions? It depends what you mean by good!
My phone is the newish T-Mobile Ameo, a Windows Mobile 5 device with
a case that makes it look like a small filofax. It has a 640x480
touch screen and an 8GB microdrive built in.
As a PDA it is actually fairly good (okay, it would be much better if
it wasn't based on WM5...)
As a phone it is mediocre, mainly because it requires a headset
(wired or bluetooth) if you don't want to use it as a speakerphone.
BUT - it runs Immervision's new Pure Player for Pocket PC. I get
full-screen panos that can be navigated using the touch screen. It is
a tad jerky compared with regular computer pano display, but it still
knocks people's socks off.
The player only works with local files, not ones online, but the 8GB
of storage means that's not a problem. And the SD card slot makes it
simple to transfer the movies from my MacBook Pro once I've made them.
I'm learning to wear the headphone lead most of the time so I can use
it as a semi-normal phone without too much hassle. But it does help
that I live by email much more than by phone calls. I can see that
if/when I get an iPhone, if it doesn't do QTVR properly, I'll keep
this thing in my bag and use it as a pano demo machine.
